- contest - Steampunkalicious

My mascot entry for Perth's local anime convention, Wai Con I wasn't planning on entering until I was bored and felt like procrastinating more important things two days before the deadline, and here it is!

The theme is 'steampunk', and although I find it a really interesting genre it ended up being hard pinning down what the heck steampunk characters are supposed to look like. I settled for a Victorian influence on the clothes in the end. One of the rules of the contest was to include something Perthy - so I made the bell tower into a giant hermit crab walking lab type thing.

I'm trying not to get too attached to these characters on the off chance that I actually manage to win, but in my mind the woman is a brilliant but underestimated mathematician and physicist, trapped by the limits put on her gender and forced to work in secret, producing and publishing work under her fool of a husband's name. The boy is a runaway from the Chinese circus and something of a mechanical genius (as well as a trapeze artist), so is a willing accomplice and test pilot XD
